Our Nursery

Our Nursery

Our rooms Shaped by the child’s natural development. Our staff leads the child onto his/her next room according to the child’s physical and mental development.

Cutie Pies (Infants - 3 months to 14 months)
So that independent, steady walking, feeding, early socialisation and sensory exploration are established giving the child an understanding of the culture s/he is born into. Early introductions to literacy a nd numeracy occur from the Baby room onwards, indoors and outdoors. From meaningful conversation; reading books and extending stories; mark-making and stimulating sensorial experiences to mention but a few, the baby develops his/her enquiring mind.

Cuddly Cubbies (Young Toddlers - 14 months to 2 years)
Accommodated into a slightly more robust setting, the physical and language development of the child are gently encouraged, enabling them to establish a greater sense of independence and of social awareness. The emotional and intellectual development of the child is nutured by loving members of staff.

Busy Bees (Older Toddlers - 2 to 3 years)
Encouraged to develop a sense a community, learning to share in play and in their mealtimes. Their holistic development is encouraged through the teachers observations of the child’s interests. Toddlers are more readily prepared for the full Montessori environment of the pre-school room. Investigations, reasoning, cause and effects are all found in our resources and activities. At every stage, we watch and learn from the child and follow their lead, so that their learning is always a positive experience.

Little Explorers (Pre-schoolers - 3 to 4 years)
For the pre-school child, resources can be chosen from accessible shelves in secure settings. Choices are theirs, but each choice within the diverse materials and activities comes from a carefully prepared environment, where each item teaches something of importance. At all times, we observe the individual’s interests and then plan with relevance for that child’s needs through ongoing evaluation. This is where our success lies as the provider and it is fundamental for learning in these early years. We present learning that is pertinent to the child as a positive experience and we offer learning of life skills that are used every day across educational, social and recreational areas. Our children respect each other and enjoy each other because of the skills they learn – each child knows to ask if they would like to share a resource; table and floor mats create a personal ‘space’ for the individual; activities involve the individual as well as a group. Montessori equipment is graded from the simple to the complex allowing children to gain in confidence without frustration, enabling them to work from the concrete to the abstract. The Montessori environment promotes the interests of the child, the teacher being led by the child’s natural curiosity, where discovery is exciting and a child’s true potential is allowed to flourish!
